All criminal court cases start within the magistrates’ court. 95% of the cases filed within the Magistrate’s court will be completed there.
The more serious offences are sent up on to the High Court, either for sentencing after the defendant has been found guilty in a Magistrates’ court, or for full trial with a judge and jury.
Other matters before the Magistrate’s Court include Civil, Labour Tribunal, Quasi, Traffic, Liquor License and Inquest.
