Washington state Sen. Nick Harper is sponsoring a bill that would make it illegal to bully someone at work.
The bill was would add "subjecting an employee to an abusive work environment" to the state's list of unfair labor practices.
The legislation would give employees legal recourse to deal with harassment at work.
The definition of "abusive conduct" in the Senate bill is defined as "conduct of an employer or employee in the workplace, with malice, that a reasonable person would find hostile, offensive, and unrelated to an employer's legitimate business interests."
State Rep. Mark Liias introduced a companion bill in the House.
